Q: I feel inadequate as a mom sometimes. I don't know if im adequately teaching my children at times. My daughter embraced Jesus last night, But her brother.... l couldn't explain it well enough? We teach, do devotions, go to church and he knows about Jesus. He has raised his hand in a church service, but didn't go forward.
I didn't mention it, but he did last night, he spoke of how he believed that we all sin, that Jesus died for our sins, that we have to ask for forgiveness', the part he cannot grasp is, " asking Jesus into your heart".
Somehow now He couldn't understand that he's been bad, or done wrong so he questioned the sin part...this, after a year where he "understood" through various studying the bible and Sunday school.
I feel inadequate. Feeling ive failed somewhere. (he is slightly on the spectrum, but this is the first thing he seems to not grasp).
We want our children to learn and come to the knowledge of Jesus and recieve salvation. We believe it comes with conviction of the heart; we don't push, but pray for our children to be born again. I believe he's been drawn by Holy Spirit because he has raised his hand, and had asked a lot of questions about salvation.
I feel I'm just failing him and doing it wrong. Any advice?
A: It sounds like seeds are being planted and truth is being watered. π
This can be helpful (to review and share), and you can discuss after, explaining sins he as a child might do. Being the mom you know the many things hes done (and forgot). You can also give him this book, which mirrors that comic style Gospel presentation video.

The "Jesus in heart" is simply a way to say when we trust God, in that Jesus died to take our place, to pay for our sins, that once we believe that and "trust" in Jesus work doing that for us, then the God changes us & His Spirit lives in us. (And he helps us to live rightly).
I would also emphasizes that all people are bad because we all sin. Sin is primarily "crimes we do towards God" because we are not living rightly in a holy way. So instead of us dying and being punished in Hell forever, Jesus (who is God and perfect), became a man by putting on human flesh, to live the perfect life we couldn't, to die in our place, and on the cross take on our eternal punishment, so the debt is paid to God and we can go free. Not because we are innocent, but because Jesus as our Savior payed the sin debt (to God) that we owed to God. It shows how much God loves us. And we see how much God loved us [by Jesus], ....then it causes us to love him too. π
Know that kids grow to understand things. But for many children and teens, they might not fully understand it for years, and thats ok. The more you teach the more seeds/ puzzle pieces get set in place to eventually complete the puzzle fully, to where π‘they then embrace it.
It is better for him to not jump in and be a false convert than carefully think through it, though our brains arent fully developed till 25 (some men not till 40) and so we dont really comprehend things until a certian age. Keep teaching and explaining, and reviewing. One day it will be clear enough, reasonable enough, that he embraces it, and God saves him. π✨️
Here's some more things you can teach him on basic truths of Christianity. These can help (in time) with the bigger picture too.
Go over the Bible verses for each one. You could use it to replace your daily devotional, so hes firming up the essentials of the Faith. Which helps lead to understanding the Gospel better.
There is a more robust version (at the bottom of the page) for the teen years, ...so its good to review it with the kids at various times in home lessons. Dont just go over it one time. Many families even memorize these points and verses, so theyre being taught the foundational essentials they wont depart from when older. You can do review drills on it in summer and with rewards. To help it stay fresh.
God bless
